2026 Annual Breakfast Recap - Supporting Neighbors. Strengthening Durham. Launching Vision 2032

Housing for New Hope Launches Vision 2032

We were pleased to have hundreds of community leaders, supporters, partners, and neighbors gathered at Housing for New Hope’s 2026 Annual Breakfast to celebrate the launch of Vision 2032-a bold vision for creating pathways to housing, health, stability, and belonging. Grounded in 34 years of serving neighbors experiencing homelessness, Vision 2032 is built on a simple but powerful belief: housing is foundational, but housing alone is not enough. Lasting stability is strengthened when housing is connected to health, recovery, employment, relationships, and community.

At the heart of Vision 2032 is Housing for New Hope’s new Supportive Pathways framework. Rather than focusing solely on housing placement, Supportive Pathways recognizes six interconnected areas that help people build and sustain stability: housing; mental health and emotional wellness; substance use recovery supports; employment and job readiness; life skills development; and relationships and community. Together, these pathways reflect our commitment to helping people not only obtain housing, but thrive within it.

To explore what this vision could mean for Durham’s future, the breakfast featured a panel discussion with leaders working at the intersection of housing, health, safety, and family stability. Panelists included Tasha Melvin, Executive Director of Families Moving Forward; Ryan Smith, Director of the Durham Community Safety Department; and Ian Lee Brown, Vice President of Community Health and Social Impact at Duke Health.

Their conversation reinforced a central theme of the morning: no single organization can create lasting change alone. Preventing and ending homelessness requires strong partnerships among housing providers, healthcare systems, public agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and neighbors-all working together to create pathways to stability and opportunity. As we look ahead to our 40th anniversary in 2032, Vision 2032 will guide how we design housing, strengthen services, build partnerships, and measure success. Most importantly, it reflects our belief that lasting change happens when a community comes together to support neighbors, strengthen Durham, and end homelessness-together.
