Spectrum Support Digital Skills in Anson County

Charter-Spectrum has been a long-time supporter of Kramden Institute’s digital skills programs. Kramden has been a recipient of Spectrum’s Digital Education grant for several years in a row, and used the grant funds to deliver digital skills training to communities throughout the state.

This year, the funds have supported train-the-trainer programs in Cumberland and Anson Counties. In Anson County, Kramden is working with long-time partner, The Caraway Foundation. Angela Caraway, who is now the mayor of Ansonville, established the foundation in 2007. The Caraway Foundation provides a variety of programs and services for both children and adults. In collaboration with Kramden, The Caraway Foundation has organized Computer Basics courses at various locations.

Classes began at The Caraway Foundation in May 2025. Community Technology Instructors, Joe Waller and Latorshia Spencer, lead each class through Kramden’s Computer Basics course and deliver refurbished laptop computers to graduates. On Monday this week, 14 individuals completed the class and received a laptop.

The graduation featured a celebration that included representatives from Spectrum. The state was represented by Maggie Woods, the Interim Policy Director of the NC Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity. State Senator David Craven was also in attendance. Senator Craven and Ms. Woods both spoke about the importance of closing the digital divide to improve NC residents’ access to job training and building a stronger workforce.

We are grateful for the work of Angela Caraway, the foundation, all of our Community Technology Instructors, and the support of the Charter-Spectrum Digital Opportunities grant.
