Kramden Participants Reach a Digital Skills Milestone!
Kramden has been offering digital skills classes to people around the state since 2014. Our Computer Basics program introduces participants to their computers and sets them on a path to continue learning how to use their devices. As part of our digital skills pathway, Kramden offers an online certificate program to people who have completed the introductory computer class. The program provides a series of computer classes covering essential computer and software skills using the Northstar Digital Literacy online program developed by Literacy Minnesota. In 2020, Kramden began offering online, instructor-guided Northstar training and certificate testing. These resume-ready certifications are designed to show employers that applicants have key computer, job, and life skills.
We have recently passed a milestone in our digital skills program: Northstar participants have earned 1,000 certificates on topics ranging from Basic Computer Skills to Microsoft Excel. Our skilled Northstar Instructor, Katie McNeirney, has guided hundreds of individuals through the program, most earning four or more certifications.
Participants use the Northstar program to continue building their digital skills. Katrina came to Kramden in 2022 for our Computer Basics class and wanted to continue working on her computer skills. She signed up for NorthStar classes and completed the entire series. “I was impressed with myself,” she said of her new skills. Earning certificates was a great way for Katrina to practice some of the basic skills she had learned while gaining new ones. She is now helping her friends and family improve their computer skills.
Because the program is online, people from anywhere in North Carolina can participate. Whether you completed Computer Basics at Kramden’s office or with one of our partners throughout the state, you can join a Northstar class to continue gaining digital skills. The certifications are a great addition to resumes to demonstrate job skills that may not have been related to past work experience.
