A Guide to Community Management on Collective
Learn how to set up your organization's community space, manage members, and keep your supporters engaged with Collective's built-in tools.
One of the most common questions we hear from new organizations on Collective is: "How do I get my community set up and running?" This guide walks you through everything you need to know.
Setting up your community space
When you create an organization on Collective, you automatically get a community space. This is where your members, donors, volunteers, and supporters can come together in one place.
Here's how to make it yours:
-
Customize your profile — Add your organization's logo, cover image, and description. This is the first thing people see when they visit your page.
-
Create your first post — Share an introduction. Tell people who you are, what you do, and why they should join your community.
-
Invite your existing supporters — Use the contact import tool to bring in your email list. They'll receive an invitation to join your community on Collective.
Managing members
Collective gives you a clear view of everyone in your community. From the Members tab, you can:
- See who's joined and when
- Filter by member type (donor, volunteer, general member)
- Send targeted communications to specific groups
- Track engagement over time
Keeping people engaged
The key to a thriving community is consistent, valuable communication. Here are some tips:
Post regularly — Share updates about your programs, celebrate milestones, and highlight the impact your organization is making. You don't need to post every day, but aim for at least once a week.
Use collections — Organize your content into collections so members can easily find what's relevant to them. For example, you might have collections for "Program Updates," "Volunteer Opportunities," and "Impact Stories."
Enable discussions — Let your community members respond to posts and engage with each other. Some of the best community building happens in the comments.
